is it worth getting a private GI-MAP or just see a GI specialist?

have chronic gut stuff. functional med person wants to run a GI-MAP stool test ($400+). my gp wants to refer to a gastroenterologist. want to know if anyone has done both and whether the functional one was additive or mostly redundant with standard workup.
